Aleksandra Wysokińska, “The Unwanted City”

The exhibition shows the city of Lodz, which we don’t want to see and know. Shabby walls, derelict buildings, sad people are the elements that we are aware of, but upon seeing them, we prefer to look away and point eyes at the evidence of the city’s prosperity. The exhibition is divided into two parts: one focuses on a typical street photography, portraits of everyday people and the surrounding urban tissue, but in a bit gloomy and critical manner; the second takes the form of a multimedia slideshow consisting of photos taken during the so-called urban exploration – penetrating abandoned buildings in Lodz – enriched with music which brings closer the climate of visited places.
