SENTIMENTAL FICTION (2009-2011)

What happens if you consciously put together a family album and, at the same time, attempt to approach the problems of our time? What is the most appropriate creative form to do that? It is a form that requires modification of the reality, adding another dimension to the time and the situation, re-enactment, creating a certain fiction or an illusion of fiction which will make it easier to speak of one’s own reality. What is this own personal reality? It is an image that simultaneously generates memory and determines what one would want to remember. It is also an ordinary snapshot or a family picture, as well as an after-image and a déjà vu. It is both an account and a reminiscence. It is sensitivity to images that are familiar to us and as we have already come across them somewhere at some point, irrespective of whether we were conscious or unconscious of what we were looking at. These images are scenes from movies we have seen, or images which remerge from elements forming our surroundings and rearrange themselves by force of inertia. It is a state in which one wants to live in this fiction, contain it in the form of a family album, frame it and hang it on a hook.

He mixes staged and natural situations, uses everyday surroundings to simultaneously document elements of reality and base fictitious stories on them. He pays great attention to traditional characteristics of photography, nevertheless he stays very close to cinematography visual narratives that are a valuable source of inspiration for him as well. He photographs mainly his wife Ajka and, since recently, his newborn son Fryderyk. Apart from photography, he is also interested in music, film, design and football.
